The map of the St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome shows the location in the Vatican City.

The Basilica is the greatest catholic church and is one of many great attractions in Rome. It got it’s name from the apostle Peter who died in 64 AD. St. Peter’s Basilica was build much later. The project started 1506 and was finished in 1625. The church is an imposing construction with a total height of almost 190 meters. Inside you find different sculptures and paintings from many well known artist where Michelangelo is the most famous.
If you travel to Rome in the summer (or in december) there will be many tourist wanting to visit St. Peter’s Basilica so you got to be prepared to wait for a long time before you can get inside. Sometimes up to two hours.

When visiting the church, don’t forget to also visit the top of the dome. The panorama view of the city of Rome is magnificent!
